Similan Island National Park is the group of 9 islands off the west coast of the city Phang Nag in the Andaman Sea. The name “Similan” comes from the Malay work “sembilan” which means mine.

Similan Islandsis National Park is known for white coral sand beaches, crystal blue waters, warm tropical nights and cooling breezes coming off the Andaman Sea. The park is an archipelago consisting of 9 islands named Ko Bon, KoBayu, KoSimilan, KoPayu, KoMiang (two adjoining islands), KoPayan, KoPayang, and KoHuyong. Recently, the park was expanded to included two remote islands named Ko Bon and KoTachai. The Similans are situated 70 kilometres from PhangNga town. "Similan" is a Yawi word which means "nine". Similan is one of the most famous diving sites in Thailand, and noted as one of the top ten dive destinations in the world according to the National Geographic Society.
